Read to the Beat this Summer
Dear Parents and Carers
Are you looking for a fun, free activity to keep your child reading over the summer holidays? Why not join the Summer Reading Challenge 2026 – Read to the Beat!
Run by The Reading Agency in partnership with local libraries, the Summer Reading Challenge inspires children to discover new books, explore exciting stories and keep their reading skills sharp while school is out.
Children can read anything they enjoy – novels, comics, graphic novels, fact books, poetry, audiobooks and eBooks all count! As they complete their reading, they'll collect rewards and work towards finishing the challenge, making reading a fun adventure throughout the holidays.
Why take part?
- Discover fantastic new books.
- Keep reading skills strong over the summer.
- Visit your local library and borrow books for free.
- Earn rewards and celebrate your achievements.
- Have fun while building a lifelong love of reading!
This year's theme, Read to the Beat, celebrates stories, music and creativity, encouraging children to let their imaginations soar.

Happy reading, and have a wonderful summer!
